Movies to Games...Bad or Good?

We all know that we love to watch movies. Movies bring such enjoyment to us as people telling an awesome story. We get pulled into it and just want to no more. I remember as a kid coming out of one of the Lord of the Rings movie wanting to be just like Aragorn killing the orcs in the forest. Just wishing to get in on the action and have it in a video game. Now I know this sounds really nerdy but it is possible for all you fans of the movie.
The major debate in the gaming world is can a movie be turned into a game. It has been done but the problem is that every time they do it the games just tank. The problems with some of these games is that they are based off of the movie's storyline so they become very dull. Other problems include the poor sub-villains and the difficult game play. There is also the horrible script reading from the actors themselves and the worse is the cut scenes from the movie that gets added to these games.
These types of games are just horrible but yet they make money. Since they hang on the tails of the movie's fame as a blockbuster. Other games made that really suck are the Speed Racer, Incredible Hulk, and something from the past Jaws Unleashed. Wow this just makes me want to cry. It is wrong in every way possible.
Now not all games based of movies are bad. There are some that have actually made it in the world of electronics because they took a different route when designing the game play. A good example of successful ones are Star Wars Battle Front 2 and Lord Of The Rings: Conquest. With these games they were not design entirely after the movies. They just had the themes and then transformed to something that a general public would like. These games are based off of third person shooters. This is were you can see your character while you perform actions in the game. They are truly amazing games when done right. So when it comes down to it you just have to be the judge.

  1. I don't play video games much, but I think that I would like some movies to be turned into games. I can't think of any in particular right now, but I know that sometimes I get so into the movie that I want to become involved. Well, video games allow for involvements moreso than movies do. If they're anything like you say they are, maybe I would want to play them. Maybe it would just ruin the movie for me. I wouldn't want a lot of cut scenes added to them because that would probably throw me off on what the plot of the movie evn was.

  2. I have played a game that was from a movie and I did not like it at all. However, there are other games that I would play based from a movie. An example would be resident evil. Killing zombies and shooting them gives me an excitement and makes me want to play more. Playing the game made me want to watch the movie, which was also a good movie to watch. There are many games to play but not all games are good.

  3. I have bought many different games that have come from movies. I have bought Lord of the Rings, the Davinci Code, and Star Wars games. Pretty much all of these games are terrible, all of them have been released way to fast. It seems that people just want to release the game as soon as possible. They don't spend the time to make a quality game, they just get it out at the time of the hype.

  4. Absolutely right. I have also played a few games directly copied from the mivies. There was a game called Mortel Combact. I first saw the movie, then i liked the movie so much that nobody could stop me from buying the game. But later i realised that the game acually was not that good. Though a lot of my friends had bought it .
So this does show that even if the game is bad, it earns profit just because of the "movie name".

  5. Anthony,
I have had my fair share of videogames based off of movies, such as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" or "Batman", which some should just not have been attempted, but as you said, some are really amazing. One of the things that annoy me, however, is the opposite of your topic; Videogames turned into movies. One movie that should have never, ever, been done was DOOM. Most of the time these movies don't stay true to the videogame storyline. This, for videogame fans is quite detrimental. There are a few exceptions, however, with movies such as the Resident Evils, but overall they are few and far between....Well done.
